If you are yearning to have an exotic beachfront
holiday experience, Malaysia is the best place
to be in. Just go through Malaysia Travel Guide
to peep into the Culture of Malaysia, sightseeing
in Malaysia and things to do in Malaysia.
Situated partially on a peninsula of the Asian
mainland and partly on the northern third of the
island of Borneo, Malaysia is a land of cultural
diversity. This is where Muslims, Chinese, Indians,
Tamils and several non Malay groups live in harmony
with each other. The multi-ethnic groups are an
intrinsic part of the Culture of Malaysia. These
groups have played a major role in shaping the
trade and business of the region from earlier
times.
The Non-Malay indigenous people constitute more
than half of Sarawak's population and are often
referred to as called Orang Asli. The non-Malay
indigenous population comprises of several ethnic
groups, but they boast common cultural affinities.
Several religions existing side by side is a
significant aspect of the Culture of Malaysia.
Although Islam is the official religion
of Malaysia, Hindus, Buddhists and Christians
share the same footing. Masjid Jamek, one of the
most beautiful mosques in Malaysia is a brilliant
example of Islamic architecture. If you are a
big on history, you can visit the historic mosque
Masjid Ubudiah in Kuala Kangsar.
Built in the 18th century by the Dutch colonizers,
Christ Church in Malacca Town retains the architectural
patterns of Dutch style of architecture. According
to the 2000 population
census, the Muslims constituted 60.4 percent of
the population Buddhists 19.2 percent, Christians
9.1 and 6.3 percent Hindus. Apart from them, the
remaining faiths were animism, shamanism, Sikhism,
Bahá'í, Taoism, Confucianism and
other traditional Chinese religions. Most of the
traditional beliefs and rituals practiced by them
earlier continue even today.
Although theoretically the Culture of Malaysia
is a tapestry of religious tolerance, in practice
discrepancies exist between the Muslims and the
Non-Muslims. Muslims have to abide by the Sharia
law strictly. In any event that a Muslim should
marry a Hindu, the latter has to convert to Islam.
But the best aspect of the culture is that every
religious group has regards for other religious
groups. Discover the colorful Culture of Malaysia
and add to your holiday experience.
